What is juvenile court?

A juvenile court is a tribunal having special authority to pass judgements for crimes that are committed by children who have not attained the age of majority. In most modern legal systems, children who commit a crime are treated differently from legal adults that have committed the same offense.

What is the Purpose of Juvenile Justice Courts?

To protect citizens and the community from crimes committed by young people. To hold youth who commit crimes accountable for their actions.

What are the 3 types of juvenile offenders?

What are the punishments for juvenile crime?

According to the Act, the maximum tenure of punishment which can be given to the juvenile offenders is three years and this punishment is valid for heinous crimes also. In case of an adult offender, the maximum punishment which can be given is 7 years or life imprisonment or death penalty.

Can a child of 8 years commit any Offence?

Under Section 82 of the Indian Penal Code 1860 (IPC), a child under the age of 7 cannot be said to have committed an offence. While POCSO does not include such a provision, the IPC immunity would apply for any POCSO offences as well.
